With a large cast of female characters living in Stars Hollow, flannel shirted, backwards baseball capped, denim clad Luke Danes wasn’t always destined to become Lorelai’s love interest. In fact, Luke was originally written as a gal pal to Lorelai named Daisy. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said, “Luke was originally a female character. The network came to me and said we need another guy, so I literally just took a character and changed the name.” Actor Scott Patterson auditioned for the role, and Sherman-Palladino recalls, “I don’t need to see anyone else. He’s 100 percent it.” Once actors Patterson and Lauren Graham began working together on set, their on-screen partnership was undeniable. Graham remembers, “It didn’t seem like, ‘Oh this is the definite love interest… .’ It’s just this funny, weird chemistry that we had in terms of being complete opposites and also this built-in conflict of he has the thing she wants—which is coffee… . It was just something about the two of those characters together that they kept going back to and then it kept growing.” Viewers don’t learn until Season 5 how the two met—Lorelai was looking for coffee and gave Luke a horoscope that he kept in his wallet for 8 years—and they don’t kiss until the Season 4 finale. Though tested at times throughout the series, Luke and Lorelai remain one of TV’s most beloved on-screen couples.

Whether you’re serving up coffee, driving your truck around town, unpacking deliveries, or shoveling snow, these fingerless gloves are the perfect accessory to get your work done and keep your hands warm. The gloves are worked from the bottom up in the round beginning with a 2x2 ribbed cuff. A gusset is made to accommodate the thumb, with the rest of the body knit in stockinette to the knuckles. Fingers are then knit individually and topped with colors to match the Luke’s Diner sign.
