“I am often seduced by the simplicity of garter stitch and ribbing – which was the case when I began designing this shawl. After establishing the textured beginning, I used beaded welts to create a subtle horizontal pattern that would divide the lace section from the garter rib. After swatching the lace pattern, however, it seemed more fitting to alternate the lace and welt motifs over the second half of the shawl, which created a simple, rhythmic knit with satisfying textures. The shawl can be worked with or without beads – as the knitter prefers – or, make one of each!” – Sivia Harding
