Lumi
From pattern blurb:
“I knit up the first version of this hat in the dead of winter, while making my way through Bill Willingham’s Fables comic book series, which follows the adventures of various characters from fairy tales and folklore living in exile in the middle of New York City. Since the Snowdrift stitch pattern at the lower edge of the hat was adapted from the traditional Frost Flowers lace pattern, I decided to name the hat Lumi,
after Willingham’s Snow Queen character, whose given name is the Finnish word for snow.
The sculptured stitch pattern is easy to work and creates feminine scallops to frame the wearer’s face. A heavy worsted weight yarn is knit at a tight gauge to create a dense, velvety fabric with great stitch definition, and working all yarn overs through the back loop closes them up, helping to keep ears toasty when the cold winds blow.“
Pattern includes both charts and written directions. Difficulty level: easy (you must know how to knit, purl, yo, knit through back loop, ssk, k2tog, and knit in the round). Available for download either via Ravelry or through the Knit Picks Independent Designer Program.
Special thanks to my test knitter Deb for her help with this pattern!
