Lumo Shawl
Lumo Shawl is a combination of an easy and an elegant look. But there’s a trick: it’s not as simple as it looks. The fabric plays with two contrast colors and it’s knit row by row (so there’s also purling). Yes, it’s garter stitch but with a totally different look. Even if you don’t normally like garter stitch, you’re probably going to love this. I do!
The shawl gives you an opportunity to play with different yarns and structures: by combining a dark and a light single merino yarn you get a beautiful and timeless shawl that will last you a long time. If you swap one of the yarns for lace weight mohair, it will change the look to a contemporary design that will blow your mind if choose some bold, even fluorescent colors. With mohair yarn the shawl glows totally differently - and that’s what Lumo means in Finnish: something that is extremely beautiful and glowing.
The beginning of the shawl is straightforward knitting and purling - you can watch Netflix and just enjoy. The lace is a little bit trickier but remember that lace means only increasing and decreasing in two directions. The lace pattern repeat contains 12 sts and when using markers after every section it’s easy to stay on track with the pattern and make no mistakes. But please, when knitting lace, concentrate on just that, not on the tv. That’s how you’ll get a perfect lace as a crown of this shawl.
