Lupine…be the flower or be “wolflike”, you decide!
Either way Lupine will cast a soft and warm glow over your shoulders and chase out the chills.
I liked the look of the gradient shades in this yarn, from silver white to charcoal grey. I wanted a heavier feel to the yarn so I wound the 4 strands together and into 3 cakes/balls trying to line up the colours but not entirely. I wanted them to be more muted. The yarn is a fingering weight so now with 4 threads it is a bulky/chunky weight. You can easily skip this step and simply purchase a chunky weight that will produce the same gauge. (If you substitute you will need approx. 500 to 600 meters possibly a little more depending on your gauge).
(Knitting with 4 strands of yarn is not any harder than with one because most yarns are already multiple strands/ply when you purchase them).
The mock cable border adds elegance but the technique adds simplicity to the construction. If there is a simpler way, I will take it!
The rest is stocking stitch and 1x1 rib. Nothing hard here.
Errata: This has been corrected in the newest PDF to download and will read as below: Please make correction in earlier versions and I apologize for my tech editor missing this and for my missing it as well.
Repeat rows 14 and 15 until work measures 13 ìnches in total length from bottom edge.
Switch to 6mm needles and repeat row 14.
Stitches used in this pattern:
K ………………..knit
P ………………..purl
K2tog ………….knit next 2 stitches together to decrease 1 stitch.
SL1KW ……….slip next stitch knit wise (as if to knit).
Mock Cables: MC3
Mock cables are made by following these four steps.
1.Slip the first stitch knitwise (as if to knit) with yarn at back.
2.Knit the second stitch.
3.Knit through the front and back of the third stitch, thereby making an extra stitch.
4.Pass the slipped stitch over the three stitches.
There aren’t even buttonholes! The buttons are just attached at the end and stitched through both layers. No fiddling with buttons, just drape over your shoulders and away you go.
The circular needles are for the volume of stitches, this cowl/wrap is knit flat, not in the round.
