This is what knitting dreams are made of!
Lupine Blouse is a lightweight blouse with a relaxed fit covered in beautiful lace.
The blouse is worked seamlessly from the top-down with European style dropped shoulders. The stitches are cast on at back neck, and the upmost back is worked back and forth with increases at both sides. Stitches are then picked up along each of the shoulders and worked back and forth towards the front. After joining at front neck, the front is worked back and forth until the sleeve circumference is reached. At underarm the back and front are joined to work the lower body in the round and for most sizes some stitches are bound off and / or decreased. Lastly, after picking up the stitches, the sleeves and collar are worked in the round in 2 by 2 rib.
The pattern is written only and requires previous sweater knitting experience.
Techniques
Backwards Loop Cast-on
Three-needle Bind-off for Sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, 3XL
The pattern includes links to tutorials covering the techniques above.
Gauge
26 sts and 29 rows & rnds = 10 cm / 4 inches over the lace pattern worked in the round and worked flat (blocked fabric) using 3.5 mm / US 4 needle. Or alternatively the width of the 15 sts pattern repeat is 5.75 cm / 2 ¼ inches.
AND
29 sts and 34 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches over 2x2 Rib worked in the round (blocked fabric) using 3 mm / US 2.5 needle.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Sizes
There are nine sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL with finished garment bust circumferences of 103.5 (115) 115 (126.5) 138 (149.5) 149.5 (161) 172.5 cm / 40 ¾ (45 ¼) 45 ¼ (49 ¾) 54 ¼ (58 ¾) 58 ¾ (63 ½) 68 inches. Choose a size that gives a positive ease of 15-30 cm / 6-12 inches and comfortable ease above the elbow. The finished garment sleeve circumferences above elbow are: 34.5 (34.5) 36 (38.5) 41.5 (43) 44 (47) 48.5 cm / 13 ½ (13 ½) 14 ¼ (15 ¼) 16 ¼ (17) 17 ¼ (18 ½) 19 inches.
The sweater is shown in size M in the photos with approximately 25 cm / 10 inches of positive ease. Due to the 15 sts pattern repeat, it is not possible to have each of the nine sizes with same amount of ease: Sizes XS, S have around 30 cm / 12 inches of ease, while sizes M, L, XL, 2XL have around 20-25 cm / 8-10 inches of ease and sizes 3XL, 4XL, 5XL around 15 cm / 6 inches.
The resulting fabric is lightweight and drapey so the blouse looks stylish with oversized ease too. More finished garment measurements and the schematic may be found in the pattern.
Materials needed
Yarn
Two yarns are held together throughout the pattern:
4 (4) 5 (5) 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 balls of Isager Trio 1 | Color 23004 Frost | 50% Linen, 30% Cotton, 20% Lyocell | Yardage 350 m/380 yds per 50 g (or 1300 (1350) 1450 (1600) 1900 (2100) 2250 (2450) 2600 m / 1450 (1500) 1600 (1750) 2100 (2300) 2500 (2700) 2850 yds of similar yarn).
AND
7 (7) 7 (8) 9 (10) 11 (12) 13 balls of Isager Silk Mohair | Color 41 | 75% Kid Mohair, 25% Silk | Yardage 212 m/230 yds per 25 g (or 1300 (1350) 1450 (1600) 1900 (2100) 2250 (2450) 2600 m /
1450 (1500) 1600 (1750) 2100 (2300) 2500 (2700) 2850 yds of similar yarn).
The lace pattern includes knitting four stitches together, so the chosen yarn combination needs to have some strength in it. Also note that if you want to alter the size of the garment, more yarn may be required.
Needles
3.5 mm / US 4, at least 80 cm / 32 inches long circular needle for the body. As the pattern calls for K4tog and ssssk, sharp-tipped needles are recommended.
One 3.5 mm / US 4 DPN for Three-Needle Bind-off for sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, 3XL
3 mm / US 2.5, at least 80 cm / 32 inches long circular needle for the hem ribbing
3 mm / US 2.5 needle(s) for small circumference knitting for the collar and the sleeves
Notions
Removable stitch markers,
Stitch holder of your choice (stitch cable, waste yarn or similar),
And a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends
