“Lykka” is a striking cardigan, with its colorful arrow-shaped block stripes at center back and the V-neck. It is worked top-down, so you can easily adjust length and make the most of your yarn.
“Lykka” means “happy” or “lucky” – and that’s how I feel at the moment, having quit my full-time job and moved to a new flat in the beautiful small town of Glückstadt (although the way to happiness was not an easy one, paved with delays in the timeline for finishing the building, and a removal of all my goods first into storage and on to the intended destination as long as 8 weeks later, but that’s a different story). But now I am here, finally having as much time for my knitting designs as I had dreamed of.
Needles: Main needle size is 3,0mm ; 2,0mm and 2,5mm used for edges.
Gauge: 28 sts x 40 rows in Stockinette, after washing and blocking. (Worked at 26 19 sts on 10cm, the piece will get approx. 1 size bigger.)
Yarn
Approx. 1600/ 1800/ 1900/ 2000/ 2200 m of a (Light) Fingering weight yarn needed, in several colors. (Approx. 350/ 400/ 450/ 500/ 550 m less required for short cardigan.)
For my (thin) sample, I have used Wool of Fame Yak Mix (366m/ 100g, 60% Merino Wool, 20% Yak, 20% Silk), with 2 skeins of color C1 and 1 skein each of colors C2, C3, C4 and C5.
As Wool of Fame has just closed down, I recommend “Das Mondschaf Cassiopeia Light” which is the same blend, with the same yardage.
Any yarn of Light Fingering or Fingering weight with a bit of drape (e.g. with a bit of Silk or Alpaca or Yak in it) will work well.
The cardigan should be worn with some (or a lot of) ease.
Instructions for a thicker version with 21 sts x 30 rows are printed in blue with numbers in brackets .
For my thick sample, I have used Knit by Moltrup Baby Linen DK in combination with Zauberkunst SummerBaby DK (both 250m/ 100g, 50% Alpaca, 25% Silk, 25% Linen). Approx. 1200/ 1300/ 1400/ 1500/ 1600 m of a DK weight yarn needed for this version, with main needle 3,75mm.
(Please note that not all of the sizes for the the thicker version have been test-knitted, as this is a kind of add-on version.)
Two separate PDF files (annexes) provide an overview of the increases/ decreases and stitch counts for the two versions.
