This pattern is written in English and US terms Advanced Beginner Level This pattern involves basic cabling and step-by-step instructions. Also links to the supporting videos of the knitting techniques are included. Sizing is for teen through average adult head (hat width 22-24 cm/ 8-9”).
MATERIALS AND TOOLS:
Suggested yarn (choose one of the following options):
- Coarsehair 100% Cashmere 550 m/100 g (216yds) two threads held together. Spent 50 g/ 137 m (55 yds).
Alternative yarn options testers used:
- Sandnes Garn Sunday 100% Merino wool 235 m/ 50 g (257 yd s) – 1 skein, held together with Tynn Silk Mohair 57% Mohair, 28% silk, 15% wool 212 m/ 25 g – 1 skein.
- Mayflower 1 Class Cashmere 65% Pure new wool, 25% polyamide, 10% cashmere 210 m/ 50 g – 1 skein, held together with Drops Kidsilk 75% Mohair, 25% silk – 1 skein.
• A pair of 2.5 mm (US 1.5, UK 12) 40 cm (16”) circular needles for 1 x 1 ribbing. You can knit with longer needles if the Magic loop technique is used.
• A pair of 3.5 mm (US 4, UK 9) 40 cm (16”) circular needles for the main body. You can knit with longer needles if the Magic loop technique is used.
• 3.5 mm (US 4, UK 9) DPNs (a set of 5 sock needles) to knit the crown if you don’t use Magic loop technique.
• Tapestry needle
• 1 Stitch marker to mark the beginning of a row.
• Measuring tape
• Scissors
GAUGE (TENSION) approximate:
19 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in stockinette stitch after washing and blocking. The swatch is made in the round with 3.5 mm (US 4, UK 9) knitting needles.
