This is the “Lynne Marie Slouchy Hat” crochet pattern for a cozy, squishy and warm winter beanie.

I designed this pattern to match the Lynne Marie Cabled Cowl I’d designed for my mom. Our family is Irish and Swedish on my mom’s side, and both cultures have long histories with intricate cables on warm woolen garments. My mom loved the scarf so much she requested a matching hat!

This hat features alternating large and small cables, and if you like, looks great topped with a pompom! As written, it will fit teenager - standard women’s size, and it comes with instructions to make it smaller, larger, or fitted instead of slouchy.

Difficulty Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Note You do NOT need to be familiar with cabling. There are lots of photos to walk you through the special stitches and the construction of the hat. I’ve got you covered!

Time to Complete: 4 - 6 hours, depending on your experience level

Hook sizes: H (5.00mm) or other size to obtain gauge

Stitches Used: Chain, Slip Stitch, Single Crochet, Double Crochet

Special Stitches (instructions and photo tutorial included): Front Post Double Crochet, Back Post Double Crochet, Front Post Triple Crochet, Cable Stitches, Decreases

Size: Medium - Finished size is about 19” in circumference and 10” tall (unblocked/unstretched). Blocking is not necessary, but it may help the overall look of your hat depending on the yarn you use. This hat is super stretchy! So it fits a wide range of head sizes.

Instructions are included in case you want to upsize or downsize the hat, or if you want to make a fitted (not slouchy) version.
