Lynn's Favorite Dish Cloth
This basic dish cloth pattern was handed down to me. I’ve tweaked it a bit and find 8” squares to be the ideal size for me. The design is made up of garter stitch (all rows knitted), yarn overs and k2tog. The picot type edge adds a bit of flair while the lace-looking loops make it easy to hang on a hook next to the sink. I enjoy using bright colorful cloths in my kitchen but also like the solid white.
Gauge isn’t all that critical as you can measure as you go along and stop increasing when you get to the size you want.
These can also be used as a trivet but I’m uneasy about their being thick enough to serve as potholders.
When the cloths are older, I like to use them on my Swiffer Floor tool. They’re just the right size for mopping up spills (get it damp first) or doing touch ups on wood, tile and linoleum floors. The grippers on the Swiffer are just the right space for tucking in the edges of the 8” dish cloth!
You can knit them on 10” straights or any length circulars. I strongly suggest using 100% cotton for durability, absorption and ease of laundering. Acrylics are not as absorbent.
