M is for Monkey
M is also for miscreant, misadventure, mischief and miscellaneous shenanigans. Which is exactly what you’ll get when you add a Monkey to your household. But don’t let that stop you from giving this pattern a try!
Designed for a bulky weight yarn, finished Monkeys will measure about 13” from head to toe when knit to gauge. You’ll need roughly 150 yards of the main color and 20 yards of contrast for a monkey with a tummy. A set of double pointed needles, i-cord, grafting/kitchener and the ability to work ‘fully-fashioned’ increases and decreases are also required. (no big deal, you can find tutorials at yarnmiracle.com/techniques or just by googling). If you are familiar with double pointed needles and are willing to try something new for the other techniques, you have enough skills to make this monkey!
All of the “is for” patterns are compatible. If you want to put the Rabbit’s arms on the Cat (or vice versa) - go for it.
The Monkey in the Pattern was made with Tahki Yarns Lana (organic wool) in Rosewood and Cream. The orange Monkey that Ellie is swinging was made with Lion’s Nature’s Choice (organic cotton) in Spice and Almond (I think it’s almond - it’s the cream color).
This the pattern formerly known as the Mystery Toy 2011 in the Ravelry Toy Knitters Group!
