Macaron Sock
Cast on something sweet with this stash busting sock pattern.
If you are wanting something to knit that is a step above vanilla socks, but still want to put on your favorite TV show and just knit, then these socks are a happy middle ground of engaging and mindless. This pattern is a great way to use up leftover yarns and minis from your stash.
Materials:
Size US 2 (2.75mm) 32-40” circulars for magic loop method, or size needed to obtain gauge
Waste yarn
Darning needle
Yarn Recommendation:
Sample shown in Macaron Sock Set by Malia Mayed It (75% Superwash Merino 25% Nylon 4ply Fingering/Sock Weight, 644 yards/140g), or any other sock yarn of similar weight.
Set comes as (12) 10g mini skeins and (1) 20g mini skein, totaling 140g
You may use as many colors as you wish for your sock. The sample was knit using 6 colors from the set of 12 for each macaron shell and a separate common contrast color for the filling of the macarons. The cuff, heel, and toe were knit using other minis from the set. When you complete each macaron pattern, start over with a new color.
Gauge: 8-9 sts per inch in stockinette
Sizes: Fits foot circumference approx 7”-10”
Special Techniques:
W2k: With yarn in front, slip two stitches purlwise, wrap yarn around slipped stitches and hold in back. Slip the two stitches back to the left hand needle and knit normally.
Afterthought Heel: This pattern is written with a variation of the afterthought heel, but feel free to make the sock with any heel type you prefer.
