MacDonald’s Pig is a reversible double-knitting design. Gauge is not critical to this project and you can create your design in a variety of yarns.

This pattern is suitable for knitters with some experience in double-knitting. The pattern includes recommendations for yarn and needles, and suggestions for casting on, binding off, and creating neat edges. Four charts are provided. Please note that row counts are not included in the pattern.

Choosing yarns with good contrast is important to show your design. You will need less than one skein of each color - about 30 grams (or 60 yards) of each color in cotton worsted.

One sample shown, in Hobby Lobby “I Love this Cotton” worked up at a gauge of 22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches to a finished size of about 8 inches wide x 7 inches tall.

Another sample was worked in loom-knitting with Caron Simply Soft, at a gauge of 17 stitches and 22 rows = 4 inches, to create an afghan square 10 1/2 inches wide x 10 inches tall.

Natural fibers will let you use your project as hot pad or coaster. Acrylic fibers will let you create a soft, easy-care square that can be part of a larger design.

MacDonald’s Pig is the first pattern release of what is hoped to be a larger group of animal designs.
