This unusual construction was inspired by a sweater worn by a character in the Mad Men TV series. Knit seamlessly from the top down, the sleeves are knit along with the body.

Materials
Worsted-weight yarn in 2 colors - MC (darker in sample) and CC.
US 6/4 mm circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge. You will need 2 needles with a length of 24” or a bit longer depending on the size you are knitting (they do not have to be the same length)
4 locking stitch markers
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Notes
- Garter stitch garments are stretchy, so this sweater is best knit with a bit of negative ease, no ease, or a small amount of positive ease. Shown modeled with about 2” of ease which is probably the most you would want and might be a bit too much actually!
- Row gauge is not given, as the difference between row gauge in a swatch and in a garment in garter stitch is significant. Generally, in a swatch you will have almost the same number of ridges (2 rows of garter) as stitches per inch. With length you get fewer rows per inch.
- Since the sleeves are knit along with the bodice, modifying sleeve length takes a bit of planning. (Check out this post in the chat thread for some guidance for modifying the sleeve length.)
- Body shaping can be added easily if desired.)
- Body length can be modified as needed. (Keep in mind the stretchiness of garter stitch!) Just don’t forget more length will require more yardage.
- Front/back are identical.
A note about sizing
This pattern was originally graded for up to a 63” bust. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to get it fully tested for the larger sizes, so it is being released with the first 7 sizes for now, as I am not comfortable with untested sizes using an unusual construction. If there is enough interest, I will run another test knit for 3 more sizes and hopefully add them to the pattern. Just let me know if you’re interested by commenting here, posting in the pattern chat thread, or PMing me!
