Madame Phelps was my high school French teacher. She was one of those memorable teachers who fought with me in order to fight for me. I will always remember her belief in me, and seeing what I was capable of doing when I was too lazy to see it myself. Nothing got past her, and she never accepted anything but my best. I drove me nuts, but her influence in my life was a lasting one.

This shawl, using a pretty French lace, is dedicated to her and all other teachers who don’t let students settle.

The construction of this shawl is from the bottom up, and uses short rows for shaping. Instructions are both written out and charted for the lace. You don’t need to know charting, but it’s there for those who prefer that method.

I’m hosting my first KAL for this shawl, with a small prize. The first 10 people to post pictures of their finished shawl/shawlette on their project page and let me know in the KAL thread will get refunded the cost of the pattern, or get a choice of any of my other patterns for free.
