“Madase” means “thank you” in Ghana, which is where I designed and knit this vest on a medical mission trip in May 2013. After posting the project, I found a published pattern strikingly similar to my vest, but with a different weight yarn. I was encouraged to go ahead and publish this pattern, as there are a few subtle differences other than the yarn weight and gauge.

The pattern is both written and charted. It is worked in the round until the arms and then knitted flat, with a 3-needle BO at the shoulders. It is not written with a negative ease, but the cabled columns give the vest a fitted shape.

The original vest was made with Plymouth Yarns Baby Alpaca Ampato, but any worsted-weight yarn would work well. Because the cabled columns are broad, I believe variegated or hand-dyed yarn would be showcased well.

Although my patterns are usually free, because the other pattern is paid, I wanted to set this pattern at the same price.
