Maddy's Hat
I designed and knit this hat for my 13 year old daughter and she LOVES it! I can’t tell you how happy I am to see her put it on every morning this week as she walks out the door to the school bus. No reminders about “you might need a hat” because she wants to wear this hat.
The hat is styled to sit low on the head…or position it a little higher on your head and it will have a bit of a slouch look.
SIZE: This pattern is written for one size which will fit most teen girls and women.
When hat is on the model and positioned low on the head (back of hat is at the neck), hat measures 23 ½” around head near bottom edge. This size will fit slightly smaller or at least 1” larger head size.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate.
You will need to know how to cast on stitches, work in the round with double pointed needles, knit & purl confidently, knit two stitches together, cast off stitches and weave in ends.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Size 5 and 7 double pointed knitting needles
Aran or Worsted weight yarn: 145 yards for main color and 22 yards for contrasting color
I used an inexpensive yarn we picked up at Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Store called Vickie Howel “Sheep(ish)”. The darker color in the listing photo is called Turquoise(ish) and the lighter color is called Robin Egg(ish). (If you buy 2 skeins of this yarn in two different colors, you can make two hats! Just reverse the colors for the 2nd hat.) My daughter loves the super soft texture. This is a pretty good yarn for a very economical price.
QUESTIONS: If you have any questions while working with the pattern, I am always happy to help. I want you to be successful!
