Madreperla (Mother of Pearls) is a beautiful triangular shawl inspired by the beauty of the sea and its treasures. The lace pattern of this shawl represents gentle ocean waves and little bobbles bring to mind precious pearls. It is knit in Merlen yarn by Cecily Grove Yarns, a wonderful merino wool with a touch of flax linen for your perfect all year round knitwear.

Madreperla is knitted up from cast-on edge and is worked in two sections. One new stitch is added in every right side row, first in the Lace Pattern (Section 1, parts 1 and 2) and then in Garter Stitch body (Section 2). It is then finished off with a Garter Stitch border.

This pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

This shawl was designed in collaboration with Cecily Grove Yarns.

Size: one size; measurements after blocking: approx. 128  cm/ 50” long across bind off edge,  165 cm/ 65” long measured from cast on edge to the top and 216 cm/ 85” acros top edge;

The size of this shawl is easily adaptable. If you want your shawl bigger and you have enough yarn, you can knit Rows 1-32 in  Section 2 a few more times before proceeding to Border. If you are running out of yarn, you can knit Rows 1-32 in Section 2 one time less before proceeding to Border.

Gauge:  19 sts and 32 rows = 10 cm/ 4” in Garter Stitch on 3.5mm/ US4 needles, measured flat after blocking; one full Lace Pattern repeat is 8 cm/ 3” wide and 10 cm/ 4” tall;
Gauge is not crucial for this project but it will affect the size of your shawl and the yardage; make sure you have enough yarn to finish your project;

Yarn: Merlen by Cecily Grove Yarns 90% merino wool, 10% cellulose-linen/flax;  360 meters (394 yards)/ 100g (3.53 oz); 3 skeins; the sample was knit in Ocean colorway;

Or: approximately 1080 m/  1182 yards of fingering yarn

Needles: 3.5 mm/ US4 circular needles at least 80 cm/ 32” long or needle size to obtain the gauge;

Other: 2 stitch markers, tapestry needle to weave in ends;
