This easy modification for a twin-stitch short-row sock heel solves many of the fit problems associated with this type of heel (especially for those with a high instep or large diagonal): instead of making the heel bigger by adding stitches to the total count, it makes the heel deeper and stretchier. It’s like magic!

This heel can be dropped into any pattern where a short-row heel can be used - toe-up or cuff-down - and can be knitted with any kind of needles; it is readily adaptable to use wherever you wish.
