Hearts are great for any occasion and season. Reflecting emotion and care, they are ideal as gifts or decoration, making a statement or just plain pretty. It could be a pin badge, keyring, mini bunting or motif.

There are many variations in this pattern: you can choose the size of your heart by selecting different yarn or hook size. You can choose to work the heart into a chain, or magic loop. And of course you can make it whatever colour you choose.

We have 2 video tutorials to go with the pattern - one with the heart made into a chain centre, the other into a magic loop. The videos take you through all the techniques you will need, so it is perfect for beginners or techniques that are new to you. Or simply crochet along in real time. We created this pattern some time before it was actually published. Then the Manchester Arena bombing, 22 May 2017, brought the need for care and compassion sharply into focus. In the days after the bombing crocheters and knitters took to the streets, hanging small hearts wherever there was space.

Thanks to anyone who bought the pattern while we were raising funds for the relief fund. All proceeds have been donated to the WEHEARTMCR Emergency Fund, in support of all the victims and survivors of the bombing. #AHEART4MCR

Sizes vary, depending on the yarn and hook used. As gauge is not important for this project, you can use whichever yarn or hook you choose. When we made the hearts, we used the following yarns and hooks:

Super chunky/Super Bulky—8mm (US L 11) hook
Chunky/Buky—6.5mm (US K/10.5) hook
Aran/Worsted—5.5mm (US I/9) hook
Double Knit (DK)/Light Worsted—4.5mm (US G/6) hook
4 ply/Sport—3.5mm (US E/4) hook
