The super bulky version of this hat and cowl pattern has been out for a few years. Not long after I wrote it up, I started sketching up what it could look like if I zoomed out a bit and made the pattern work with bulky weight yarn. This headband pattern is taken from a portion of that pattern.

I’ve had this sketch in my book for years and just finally knit up the first sample this spring. I absolutely love it! The patterns are named after an actual giant magnetic rock here in NE Minnesota. You can hike to this rock off the Gunflint Trail.

This headband is knit in the round from the bottom up using circular needles. The pattern calls for 2 or 3 colors. There are instructions for 3 sizes: youth, teen/adult s/m, and adult l/xl. The height of the headband is the same for all 3 sizes.

Shown in Malabrigo Chunky yarn. Bulky weight yarn can vary quite a bit, so be sure to gauge swatch and adjust needle size as needed to meet gauge. Note: Tight knitters may want to size up needles for a better fit.

There are coordinating hat and cowl patterns available separately as well.

Yarn for this pattern is available on my wesbite www.northroadknits.com
