The Magpie Moccasins are a knitted take on the adorable moccasins which are so popular these days for babies and children. These moccasins are warm, cozy and designed to stay on your child’s foot securely with the help of a tongue and woven i-cord. With a garter stitch sole, purled shoe and seed stitch foot, the magpie moccasins are fun and engaging to knit. The fringe is created using an incredibly simple technique historically used to adorn a special kind of embroidery called Mountmellick. It is first knitted into an easy openwork lace stitch, then partially unravelled to create the moccasin fringe. With sizes from infants all the way to size 3 child, you can easily knit moccasins for all of your little birds!

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:

• blocked: approx. 4”, 4.5”, 5” (5.5”, 6”, 7”, 7.5”, 8”) foot length with some added ease
• please note these moccasins are designed to be roomy and have a good bit of ease built in to the toe to allow for a longer period of time wearing them - kids feet grow so quickly! - and/or wearing with socks, so the measurements are approximate.

Quince & Co Chickadee (100% American wool, sport weight yarn; 181 yards/50g)

• MC: “bark” 1, 1, 1, (1, 1, 1, 1, 2) skeins or approx. 60, 75, 90, (100, 120, 160, 180, 200) yards.
• CC: “twig” 1, 1, 1, (1, 1, 1, 1, 1) skeins or approx. 40, 55, 70, (80, 100, 140, 160, 180) yards

TOOLS AND NOTIONS:

• US size 4/ 3.5mm DPNs
• US size 4/ 3.5mm 12” circular knitting needle
• stitch markers, yarn needle
• dark brown sewing thread or thin embroidery floss and multi colored seed beads

GAUGE:

• 22 sts/ 32 rows = 4 inches in reverse stockinette (purl) with US 4/ 3.5mm

• 24 sts/ 48 rows = 4 inches in seed stitch with US 4/ 3.5mm
