Magpie Shawl
After designing the Magpie MKAL I could not stop thinking about its construction and knew I needed to design a shawl using it.
So like the MKAL, Magpie Shawl starts with two mitered triangles joined at their tips. Then each wing is worked out, first with short rows and then with gently decreasing stripes.
In the end you have made a generously sized triangular shawl with a whole new construction!
Play with color: Magpie works with 2 solids, or 1 solid and 1 variegated or gradient yarn… the sky is the limit!
You will need light fingering or fingering weight yarn
420 yards MC- Main Color
400 yards CC- Contrasting Color (you can use a solid, variegated or gradient for the CC)
Yarn I Used:
Blue Version-
MC- Jill Draper Makes Stuff, Esopus (100% superwash merino; 500 yd 457 m/ 113 g), col. North Atlantic
CC- Tanis Fiber Arts, Purple Label (70% superwash merino, 20% cashmere, 10% nylon; 400 yd 366 m/ 115 g), col. Spearmint
Maroon Version-
MC- Shibui, Staccato (70% superwash merino/ 30% silk; 191 yd 175 m/ 113 g), col. Bordeaux
CC- Noro, Taiyo Sock (50% cotton/17% wool/17% nylon/16% silk; 462 yd 422m/ 100 g), col. 49
Video tutorials are included to help with new techniques.
