Mahana is to be warm in te reo Māori (the Māori language). The Mahana Scarf is made from special yarn which is 80% young kid mohair and 20% merino. The angora goats which this mohair yarn is from, are raised at Ad Maiora Angoras on Banks Peninsular in the South Island of New Zealand, making the yarn completely traceable (www.admaiora.co.nz). The yarn has a beautiful halo and sheen to it, making a lightweight but cosy scarf, being approximately a light fingering weight.

The scarf is cast on and increases are combined with the pattern. Once the width is reached, the scarf is worked to the length desired, with the pattern. Decreases are then worked, again incorporating the pattern. An i-cord edge is worked concurrently throughout the whole pattern, so once you get to the end, you are finished!

This is a cute little scarf to wear either wrapped up inside a jacket or tied in a wee knot off to the side. It is versatile, light and oh so cosy warm!

Finished Sizes
Mahana has a finished size of 43” / 110 cm long and 5 ½” / 14 cm wide, using the sample yarn.

US 2 ½ / 3 mm needles (either straight or circular depending on preference) for the sample yarn or
Adjust needle size as needed to obtain correct gauge.
Stitch markers and tapestry needle.

Sample knit in Ad Maiora Angoras – 80% young goat mohair and 20% merino (3ply yarn with 100g / 380 yds or 347 m)
Approximately 100g of the sample yarn is required.

28 stitches / 36 rows per 4” / 10cm using US 3 / 3 mm needle on stockinette after blocking.
