Mai Sola
A joyous smile. A shared ice cream cone. A warm hug at the end of a long day.
One promise of a shiny gold band, another to never walk alone.
Memories float to the surface.
This pattern was written as a tribute to an exceptional woman who started her journey 66 years ago with her best friend. While the path didn’t end the way they expected, Miss Catherine’s faith, perseverance, and love during her Philip’s longest days of Alzheimer’s was an inspiration to all around her.
Each day, we all have a journey to continue. Courage, determination, persistence and endurance help the caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s go through the difficult, longest days.
Mai sola: Italian for “never alone.”
7/2016: in the body section row 4 the stitch count should be 186 (216)
The Longest Day Challenge
The Longest Day challenge: to honor those whose every day is the Longest Day and those who love them.
All proceeds from the sale of Mai Sola will go to the Alzheimer’s Association forever.
Pattern notes
- The crescent is shaped with ssk/p2tog short rows, with no wraps required!
- Shawl can be made larger most easily by using a worsted weight yarn and the larger stitch count. Yardage will increase to 3 skeins or 630 yds.
- Markers may not be helpful, as the stitch count varies within the repeats.
- The DK weight shawl made with Malabrigo Rastita used 92 g of the 100 g skein, please consider purchasing another skein if your gauge is not exact.
- Gauge for DK version is 20 sts and 32 rows in 4” stockinette stitch.
- Can be made larger yet with additional repeats. I will happily supply numbers for short rows section, please PM me.
