Maidencombe is an easy, comfortable summer top, knit in beautifully soft recycled cotton yarn and using reverse garter stitch in the round for a quirky ‘broken stripe’ look.

The top is worked from the bottom up with a two-piece bottom edge, worked in the round up to the armholes, then split and worked flat to the shoulders which are seamed together. Stitches are then picked up round the armholes and worked back and forth for an armhole cuff with a split at the top for decoration as well as ease.

The pattern is sized for 32-44” chest with 6” positive ease. Lengths are: 17¾ (19, 19, 19, 20¼, 20¼, 21½) inches.
The body is a boxy shape with drop shoulders and an armhole trim designed to stop any armhole gaping. The trim is worked in garter stitch with a split at the shoulder seam to relieve any tightness. This also mirrors the split in the bottom trim.

Twilleys Freedom Echo DK is a 100% recycled cotton yarn which is beautifully soft to wear as well as to knit with. However, any soft DK cotton can be substituted as long as tension/gauge is achieved. Sample shown used shade 901 (natural) and shade 903 (blue). Skeins required: 4 (5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6) x 50g of Main Colour (natural) and 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3) x 50g of Contrast Colour. Yardage for each size = 388 (442, 463, 484, 544, 566, 630) of Main Colour and 145 (162, 170, 177, 194, 204, 222) of Contrast Colour.

Other materials needed: 5mm (US 8) circular needle, also 5mm dpns for armhole trims unless using magic loop method. Stitch marker for end or round (if required). Darning needle.

Please take note of the row tension/gauge as the repeating stripe pattern calls for an amount of rows rather than a length to be knitted.
