When it comes to stockings, there seems to be people who do stockings and people that do STOCKINGS. People that say that’s the best thing to open on Christmas morning. People that start collecting stocking stuffers in January. People that have a disregard for traditional stocking stuffers and need a little more room for all of that loot. People that need a serious stocking - like these. One is more traditional and a labor of love, with stripe after stripe of colorwork and a place to knit or embroider a name for an instant heirloom. The other is more likely to be the choice if you need it right away, or need to make more than one before the big day, as it’s worked up quickly in a bulky yarn. They can be as colorful as you like with each stripe of the bulky stocking and each stripe of colorwork a different color, or they could stay two-tone for simplicity’s sake.

Both patterns are worked in the round from the top down with an afterthought heal. The patterned stocking uses fingering weight yarn and stranded stockinette for fair isle designs. The colorwork instructions are both written and charted. The striped stocking uses bulky weight yarn and a easy striped pattern.
