Description
Tee off and score yourself an upper class birdie. Fore!

The third in the collection of Cumbrian Characters is Major Ditherington-Flyte, who is a golf-playing pheasant, dressed in tweed jacket and plus fours, finished off with a cravat held by a silver pin. You can tell by the way that the Major struts around he is a landowner and gentleman farmer, who can afford to spend his days in the pursuit of his favourite pastime. Any tweed double knitting yarn can be used for his suit, so you may have something suitable left over from knitting a sweater, or else you can choose to dress the Major in a different colour altogether.

You will need: Of Sirdar Harrap Tweed DK, 50g balls (or similar tweed DK yarn): 42g in Brace 102; of Hayfield Bonus DK, 100g balls: 8g each in Walnut 927 and Grass 825, 6g in Primrose 957, 4g each in Black 965, Toy Soldier 691, Wheat 816 and Chocolate 947, and 2g each in White 961 and Signal Red 977; of Twilleys Goldfingering, 25g balls (or similar lurex yarn): 2g in Silver 005; pair of 3mm (no.11) knitting needles; 60g of washable toy stuffing; long tweezers; eight plastic drinking straws; clear adhesive; hair spray.
