This stranded colorwork hat was designed as a love note for my daughter. It’s message, knit in Morse code, says, “Make good choices, learn lots, and be a good friend. I will love you forever, no matter what. XOXO, Mom.” The background color and code color change as you move up the hat to create a three color fade effect.

An alternate version of the last line of code eliminates the word “Mom” and replaces it with more kisses and hugs, in case the knitter is someone other than “Mom.”

The sizing is easily adjusted by changing needle size and/or yarn weight. Adjusting the number of stitches, however, would require recharting the entire message. I strongly recommend knitting a test swatch and measuring the head of the person for whom you are knitting, rather than guessing. My gauge is on the tight side. Other people knitting with the same combination of yarn and needles might make a hat suitable for an adult rather than a child.

Yarns I used:
Color A: Knit Picks Swish Worsted in Sour Apple
Color B: Knit Picks Swish Worsted in Pucker
Color C: Knit Picks Swish Worsted in Gulfstream

One 110 yd/50g skein of each will leave you with ample leftovers. You might even get two hats out of it.

Big thanks to my test knitters!
