Crocheted Knitting Belt/Pouch for Insulin Pump

First off: I have personally never used a traditional leather knitting belt. So please keep that in mind as you read on.

I am a type 1-diabetic and use an insulin pump, which is connected to my body to deliver insulin constantly.

I was not satisfied with what was available to carry the pump with me and decided to create a pouch on a loop to wear around my neck or diagonally around my torso. It had to be see-through so I could read the display.

I made many pouches like these and finally realized I can also use them as a knitting belt. Yeah!

In the pictures showing use of the knitting belt you can also see the insulin pump in its pouch. Both pouches are basically the same but can be used to either hold an insulin pump or become a “knitting belt”. All you need to make them is some yarn, a crochet hook and an empty toilet paper roll for the knitting belt.

The knitting belt stabilizes the knitting needle because of the tension of the crochet fabric around the paper roll and the belt wrapped around your body. The more loops you use to hold your needle in place the stronger it will be held. This is because the needle is straight but the fabric and paper roll are curved. For this reason it is important that the fabric wraps tightly around the paper roll.

It works really well for me but if you can afford a genuine knitting belt, please go for it and support those crafts people.
