Easy lace asymmetrical shawl, in a pretty garter and elongated stitch pattern. Directions include color pictures, very detailed knitting instructions and definitions of stitches used, and NO CHARTS. So this pattern is easily accomplished by an advanced beginner to intermediate knitter.

~Making Clouds Shawl~ From the Hot Chocolate Pattern Collection by Lavender Hill Knits

The Making Clouds Shawl was inspired by my son, Aaron. When he was two years old we were outside one day admiring the blue sky when he said, “Look Mom, they’re out making clouds again today!” He was referring to the long white trails, called contrails, that the airplanes were leaving behind in the sky. We spent a good long time mesmerized by the shapes the vapors created as they spread out across the sky. Aaron has always been fascinated by airplanes and dreamed of becoming a pilot. He’s older now, still loves airplanes and traveling, and maybe his dream of being a pilot will come true and one day he’ll be out making clouds.

Materials needed to make the shawl:
Size US 4 (3.25mm) 29” or longer circular knitting needles
2 skeins (420 yards each) of fingering weight yarn in two contrasting colors (yarn used for shawl shown is Tosh Merino Light by Madeline Tosh.

Finished measurements blocked:
73” (186cm) along increased left edge
57” (145cm) along straight right edge
52” (132cm) along bound off edge

Gauge
Using size US 4 needles and fingering weight yarn, garter stitch and blocked: 5 stitches and 7 rows over 1”. Gauge isn’t super important since this is not a garment.
