Notes from the Designer:

“Malhar,” a classical Indian Raga, which is associated with torrential rain and is said to bring rains, is traditionally played in monsoon or pre-monsoon. The Malhar Tank pattern is inspired by this raga and the way rain droplets do not fall straight down, but are moved around by the wind, falling with same horizontal speed as the wind and appearing as if they’re falling at an angle. This versatile and stylish tank showcases a V neckline, playful side slits, and a slightly open upper back. The tank is made up of two panels, front and back, created using bottom-up construction and both displaying overlay design of rain falling laterally.

  • IMPORTANT - Before beginning, read through the entire pattern, and mark the directions and stitches indicated for your size. Sample shown in size Small modeled on 34” (86 cm) bust with 2” (5 cm) positive ease.
  • Gauge is crucial in this pattern to ensure fit. Note that the unblocked stitch gauge is different from the blocked stitch gauge.
  • This piece is crocheted in rows from bottom up. The front and back panels are crocheted separately and then sewn together to create the tank. Neckline and armhole trim is added after everything is constructed.
  • This design has a slightly wide V neckline. If you have narrow or sloping shoulders, you may wish to crochet additional rounds of neckline trim to narrow the neckline a bit more.
  • Starting chain does not count as first stitch unless stated otherwise within the pattern.
  • Use a stitch marker to keep track of first and last stitches.
  • Pattern is written in smallest size with additional sizes in parentheses as follows: XS (S, M, L, XL) (2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL). Final stitch count for all sizes is in parentheses at the end of each row. Stitch count is mentioned only when there is increase or decrease.
  • There are bracketed instructions that apply to only some sizes (written in bold). It is strongly suggested that you look through the pattern, and circle all repeat numbers that apply to your size and cross out bracketed instructions that do not apply.
  • To increase the overall length, work additional rows of the body section. Increasing the length will increase the yardage requirements.
  • Remember that all post stitches will have a skipped stitch behind them. It is NOT explicitly mentioned in the pattern.
