The Fell Shawls series’ final shawl is the delicate, asymmetric lace shawl Malla. The shawl comes in two sizes: Pikku‐Malla (fin. “Little Malla”, knit with fingering weight yarn) and Iso‐Malla (fin. “Great Malla, knit with lace weight yarn). The Malla Fells are located in the municipality of Enontekiö, at the shore of lake Kilpisjärvi. At the fell pair’s northwest flank lies the small lake Mallajärvi.

The shawl’s main part is knitted first, and the edging’s stitches are picked up from its borders. The edging’s middle part is flanked by fell rows. By using gradient‐colored yarn you get a shawl from which the Northern Lights blaze. A solid‐colored shawl can be brightened up with beads. And the fun really begins with the blocking…

Pikku‐Malla: Novita Polku (73 % wool, 24 % nylon, 3 % polyester) 450 yd (410 m)/3.5 oz (100 g), 7 oz (200 g), color 867 (aubergine). Exact yardage 5.25 oz (150 g) i.e. 650 yd (600 m). Yarn can be replaced with any similar strength yarn of yardage 440–460 yd (400–420 m) / 3.5 oz (100 g).

Iso‐Malla: Rowan Fine Lace (80 % alpaca, 20 % merino wool) 440 yd (400 m)/1.75 oz (50 g), 3 balls, color Sh940 (night blue). Exact yardage 920 yd (840 m) i.e. 3.7 oz (105 g): I had to start a third ball while binding off th shawl in the pictures. Yarn can be replaced by any similar strength yarn of yardage 550–880 yd (500–800 m) / 3.5 oz (100 g).

If you want to use beads, you will need 1240 pc. (Pikku‐Malla) / 2056 pc. (Iso‐Malla) size 8/0 glass seed beads and a crochet hook size US 18–14 (0.5–0.75 mm) for threading the beads on the stitches. I recommend to reserve more beads, as there are always some damaged or malformed ones among them.

Zunächst wird der Hauptteil des Tuches gestrickt, von dessen Rändern anschließend die Maschen für die Bordüre aufgenommen werden. Der Mittelteil der Bordüre ist von Fjellreihen umgeben. Wird ein Garn mit

Farbverlauf verwendet, bekommt man ein Tuch, in dem außerdem die Nordlichter flackern. Ein einfarbiges Tuch kann mit Perlen aufgefrischt werden. Und das Aufspannen ist besonders spaßig…

Tunturihuivisarjan päätöshuivi on herkkä, epäsymmetrisen muotoinen pitsihuivi Malla. Huivista on tarjolla kaksi kokoa: Pikku‐Malla ja Iso‐Malla. Mallatunturit sijaitsevat Enon‐tekiön kunnassa, Kilpisjärven rannalla. Tunturiparin koillisrinteellä sijaitsee myös pieni Mallajärvi.

Huivissa neulotaan ensin runko‐osa, jonka reunoista poimitaan reunapitsin silmukat. Reunapitsissä keskiötä reunustavat tunturi‐jonot. Mikäli käytät liukuvärjättyä lankaa, saat huivin, jossa loimuavat myös revontulet. Yksiväristä huivia voi piristää helmillä. Pingottaminen se vasta hauskaa onkin…
