Mallard Duck Family
This pattern is for a mallard duck family, including a male and female adult duck as well as a duckling.
The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Stylecraft Special Aran yarn for this project (equivalent to light worsted weight) and my finished adult ducks measure approximately 17cm tall & 18.5cm long. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn throughout the entire project.
For the male mallard duck you will need the following colours / quantities:
- Dark Green - for the head (approx. 17m).
- Brown - for the chest & feathers, I used shade ‘mocha’ (approx. 25m).
- Light grey - for the body & wings, I used shade ‘silver’ (approx. 51m).
- Yellow - for the beak, I used shade ‘mustard’ (approx. 5m).
- Orange - for the feet, I used shade ‘spice’ (approx. 9m).
- Blue - a small amount for the feathers, I used shade ‘cornish blue’ (approx. 1m).
- White - a small amount for the neck & feathers (approx. 2m).
For the female mallard duck you will need the following colours / quantities:
- Beige - for the head, body & wings, I used shade ‘camel’ (approx. 87m).
- Brown - for embroidering the details on the head & chest, I used shade ‘mocha’ (approx. 7m).
- Orange - for the beak & feet, I used shade ‘spice’ (approx. 14m).
- Blue - a small amount for the feathers, I used shade ‘cornish blue’ (approx. 1m).
- White - a small amount for the neck & feathers (approx. 1m).
For the ducklings you will need the following colours / quantities (per duckling):
- Brown - for the head, back, feet & beak, I used beige (approx. 10.5m).
- Pale yellow - for the face & chest, I used shade ‘lemon’ (approx. 13m).
Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide and are based on using aran (light worsted) weight yarn with a 4mm hook. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be
substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- 2 pairs of 9mm black safety eyes.
- A length of black yarn or thread for adding the details to the beaks & eyes to the ducklings.
- Some toy stuffing.
- Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some pins, scissors and some stitch markers.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you.
