Mama's Swedish Pinwheel Potholder

My mother learned to make these in Sweden in 1939, when she was 11 and had fled Finland before the Russian invasion. She and my grandmother were taught how to make them by their landlady. I remember watching her make them when I was a small child, and being fascinated by the seamless spiral design. After having scoured the internet for the pattern with no success, I “unvented” the pattern from memory.
Use the magic circle cast on as illustrated in the tutorial. Make a loop, with hook pull up a loop and ch1, sc5. Do not count the chain stitch.
