Evil Eye Uterus, Crochet Pattern by Sophia Orquiz.

Level: Intermediate

Inspiration and Meaning Behind the Pattern:

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending 50 years of federal abortion rights in the USA. The ruling eliminates constitutional abortion rights and gives individual states the power to set their own abortion laws. The ruling had a major impact on states like Texas, which had a trigger law that went in to effect within 30 days a formal judgement was issued. The Texas abortion ban makes no exception for rape or incest, and leaves narrow exceptions to save the life of a person experiencing complications during pregnancy. Unfortunately, due to a Supreme Court ruling, Texas was able to enforce an old abortion ban that predates Roe, allowing them to penalize or criminalize providers for aiding or abetting abortions. Please consider voting against politicians whose policies are a danger to the people of Texas with uteruses, and nationwide.

Like many, I turned to creativity to channel my emotions in response to the ruling. Crochet, much like art, offers an outlet to express oneself. I chose to create a uterus with an evil eye to offer my daughters protection from harm.

The meaning behind the evil eye can vary between cultures and hold varying degrees of significance across the globe. The evil eye symbol is often used as a talisman or amulet for protection against evil spirits, negativity, or persons who mean to bring you harm or misfortune. They come in different shapes and forms, traditionally in the colors blue or green. Dark blue represents karma, fate, and good luck. Yellow represents health and decision making.

I added 7 lashes to the evil eye. Lucky number 7 is a powerful number. It symbolizes wisdom, intuition, self-awareness, and mysticism in numerology. The number 7 carries the ability to heal people on a spiritual, emotional, and physical level, allowing individuals to intuitively tune in to their emotions and needs.

The ovaries include 3 sets of 6 eggs. 666 is a sacred number symbolizing the divine feminine. It represents balance, harmony, peace, and feminine nature in numerology. The divine feminine is a powerful force or energy that guides one soul to ascension, a higher vibration or frequency, potential, or purpose in life. It manifests spiritual wisdom or awakening.
