The fifth pattern in our Sock of the Month “National Parks Series”!

Inspired by the amazing colors of Yellowstone National Park’s Mammoth Hot Springs, these socks capture the layered limestone and columns of water in blocks of ribs and garter stitch. The socks are topped with a rippled cuff designed to capture the steam as it comes off the hot spring.

Size: Women’s Medium (Women’s Large)

Foot Circumferences: 7 ¾” (8 ½”)

Gauge: 32st/4” in Stockinette Stitch

Needles: US 1 (2.5mm) double points or (2) US 1 (2.5mm) circulars or needles to obtain gauge

Materials: Shown in Mountain Colors’ Twizzlefoot (53% Superwash
Merino Wool / 17% Domestic Wool / 17% Silk / 13% Nylon: 450 yds/100g)

Yardage: Approximately 350 (400) yards of fingering weight yarn (1 skein)

Skill Level: Intermediate

A note on the yarn color: Amy knit her socks out of the Birch Tree colorway, which has several colors in it but they are all very similar in intensity and in value. As a result, her finished product is fairly even toned. If you choose a skein that has lots of colors and/or has lots of light and dark, your finished product will have sections of each color and will be much more variegated. Both create beautiful socks!
