Mangata Shawl
Mangata is the Swedish word for the glimmering road like reflection that moonlight creates on water.
There are now 2 slightly different versions of Mangata, the original version with a raised centre spine and an unusual mesh pattern, and the new version 2, which is slightly larger and with a simpler mesh pattern.
Both are triangular shawls is knitted from the top down, starting with a narrowly striped stockinette pattern and ending with the same beautiful lace border.
The instructions for each shawl are for one size only and are given in form of charts and written instructions.
Measurements:
Version 1 63” x 31” or 160cm x 78 cm
Version 2 70” x 31½” or 178cm x 80cm
These measurements vary with different yarn weights and needle sizes.
It is possible to use different yarn weights within the shawl, but careful swatching, especially for the mesh section in version 1, is then strongly recommended. Sock yarns and other fingering or 4ply yarns work best.
The yarns used are
Version 1:
Fyberspates, Scrumptious 4ply, 55% merino, 45% silk, 399 yds (365m) per 100g, 1 skein in Gold.
Lotus Tibetan Cloud worsted, 100% yak, 328 yds (300m) per 100g skein, 1 skein in col. dark Blue.
Version 2:
Old Maiden Aunt 100% superwash merino 4ply, 100% superwash merino, 400 yds (366m) per 100g skein, 1 skein col. Something Herbal for Colour 1.
Old Maiden Aunt 50% superwash merino/50% silk 4ply, 50% superwash merino, 50% silk, 400 yds (366m) per 100g skein, 1 skein col. Pretty Floral Bonnet for Colour 2.
(Please note: Only a few metres were left of this colour at the end, it could be safer to use a yarn with more yardage.)
