Manic Pixie Hat and Mitts
This is a super-quick and easy hat and mitts that can be worked up in one day, and is great for gifting!
The hat is worked bottom-up in the round and features a curled brim, attractive swirly decreases, and a cute little I-cord sprout at the top!
The mitts are worked from the knuckles down, which makes it easy to use up every bit of your yarn (just make the cuffs longer if you have yarn left!)
Instructions are given for cable cast-on and a stretchy bind-off.
Pattern has been tested
I used Yarn Bee Wildstreak (discontinued) but any bulky yarn in length range for 135-150 yards (123-137m) per 100g will work; alternately you could use worsted weight held double, for a nice tweedy look.
Materials needed:
- Yarn as described above
- 1 stitch marker for beginning of round
- DPNs or circular needle in sizes US 10.5-11 (6.5-8mm). DPNS will be needed for hat decreases and for mitts
Gauge is 12 sts / 16 rows to 4”/10cm
Stitches used:
K = Knit
P = Purl
K2tog = Knit 2 together
SSK = slip 2 st kwise, k 2st tog TBL
CO = Cast on
CCO = Cable Cast on
SL1WYIF = Slip stitch with yarn in front
SL1WYIB = Slip stitch with yarn in back
