Manischewitz
Manischewitz is the combination of two running text threads that I have had going with Dami of Magpie Fibers over this long, crazy winter.
It began when I informed her that I needed her to create a Hanukkah-specific colorway this holiday season. She created a gorgeous skein full of subtle blues and gray and golds, we named it “Non Denominational Wrapping Paper”, and I was then challenged to design and knit a shawl in 8 nights with it. And I did!! phew
Once finished, we decided it would be the Manischewitz Shawl.
But that wasn’t the end of it, because I really wanted to make a second one - because we have this whole Beaver Thing full of terrible puns - because we are actually twelve. You may have noticed she has a whole range of colorways with Beaver names. Know that those have brought a few of us much joy.
While pondering what to use for version #2 of Manischewitz, and of course suggesting all the Beavers, Dami asks me if I’d be part of a planned Beave-A-Long event - and really guys - who doesn’t need a little stupid fun right now? Beaver puns, beaver prizes, and a KAL, so yes I am in.
JUST IN TIME for PASSOVER, version #2 is obviously the Pareve Beaver version of the Manischewitz shawl, right?
The discount code Pareve Beaver will get you 20% off the pattern until midnight on 3/21/21.
If you want in on the Beav-A-Long, here are ALL THE DETAILS.
But maybe you just want to know about the shawl:
Manischewitz features a lot of garter stitch, a bit of lace, a touch of texture, the chance to combine beautiful colors, and tassels.
Small details like stockinette columns above the lace points, a bit of texture within the lace itself, and the amazing way garter stitch curves above a lace motif - elevate the basic design, but it’s still easy and rhythmic and a great break from heavily cabled sweaters.
The large size is giant and squishy, but not so much that it can’t be wrapped around your neck as a gorgeous statement piece. The smaller one is just perfect worn over a sweater or under a jacket, but it’s also big enough for a shoulder wrap. And the tassels just make me happy and feel so festive.
