Descripción
En el año 2023 la Menorca Talayótica fue declarada Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO, reconociendo la buena conservación del patrimonio prehistórico de la isla en la que vivo desde hace cinco años. Me pareció un bonito homenaje crear estas manoplas con una textura que imita uno de los monumentos prehistóricos tan característicos de la isla.
Las manoplas Talaiot se construyen de abajo hacia arriba, es decir, desde el elástico de la muñeca a la punta de los dedos, creando el dedo pulgar a medida que avanzamos en el tejido. Una vez creado el pulgar, se dejan los puntos del mismo en espera para finalizar el cuerpo de la manopla, donde aparecerá una textura que emula un talaiot. Una vez tejido el cuerpo de la manopla, se retoman los puntos del pulgar para terminar la manopla.
Técnicas utilizadas
Para poder tejer las manoplas Talaiot tendrás que saber tejer punto derecho y punto revés, hacer aumentos y disminuciones, montar puntos y cerrarlos, dejar puntos en espera y saber recuperarlos, levantar puntos, y trabajar con agujas de doble punta o conocer el método magic loop.
Lana
Lana sin hilar (100 gr, 460 m), tejida a hebra doble. Yo he utilizado lana de &Point, en su calidad Wild Yarn Merino (100% merino) y en el color Geoda.
Muestra de tensión
10 puntos x 17 vtas en un cuadrado de 5cm x 5cm, tejido en circular con agujas de 4 mm (US 6), con el método magic loop y en punto derecho, después del bloqueo.
Tallas
Talla 1: 28 pt, o un contorno de mano de 17’5 cm medido a la altura de los nudillos.
Talla 2: 32 pt, o un contorno de mano de 18’5 cm medido a la altura de los nudillos.
Talla 3: 36 pt, o un contorno de mano de 19’5 cm medido a la altura de los nudillos.
Medidas
En la talla 1 (la de la portada), la manopla mide 21 cm de alto por 7’5 cm de ancho, que se convierten en 10’5 cm de ancho si se mide por la parte más sobresaliente del pulgar, sin bloquear.

In 2023 the Talayotic Menorca was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing the good preservation of the prehistoric heritage of the island where I have been living for five years. I thought it was a nice tribute to create these mittens with a texture that remember one of the prehistoric monuments so characteristic of the island.
The Talaiot mittens are knitted from the bottom up, that is, from the ribbing to the fingertips, creating the thumb as you knit in the mitten. Once the thumb is knitted, the thumb stitches are left on hold to finish the body of the mitten, where a texture emulating a talayot will appears. Once the body is knitted, the thumb stitches are pick up again to finish the mitten.
Skils required
Pattern requires the following skills: knit, purl, increasing and decreasing, pick up stitches, cast on and bind off stitches, leave stitches on hold using scrap yarn or a stitch holder, and knitting with DPNs or circular needles 80 cm long to knit with magic loop.
Yarn
Two strands of unspun yarn held together (100 gr, 460 m). I have used yarn from &Point, in her quality Wild Yarn Merino (100% merino wool), in color Geoda.
Gauge
10 sts x 17 rows in stockinette stitch over 2 inches (5 centimeters), on 4 mm (US 6) needles, knitting in the round with magic loop, after blocking.
Sizes
Size 1: 28 sts, or approximately 6’7 inches (17’5 cm) width.
Size 2: 32 sts, or approximately 7 inches (18’5 cm) width.
Size 3: 36 sts, or approximately 7’5 inches (19’5 cm) width.
Dimensions
On size 1 (shown in the cover), the mitten is 8’25 inches (21 cm) height and 3 inches (7’5 cm) width, that it becomes in 4’1 inches (10’5 cm) width including the thumb, before blocking.
