Spain is home of some of the earliest examples of European knitting; especially lace knitting has a long tradition. Some historians even believe that the well-known Shetland lace was brought to the Shetland Islands by the Spanish. Spanish mantillas (chapel veils) are typically rectangular pieces with rounded edges, worn over a woman’s head.

The light and luxurious Mantilla Stole features a large central lace panel and a knitted-on edging.

Knitters can choose to work the lace patterns from charts or full written instructions.

1 skein of lace weight yarn with a yardage of approximately 800 m (875 yds) per 100 g
Used in the sample: Bijou Spun by Bijou Basin Ranch Seraphim (95% angora, 5% rayon; 435 yd 397 m/ 1¾ oz 50 g): pomegranate, 2 balls

Please note that for the sample almost all of the two balls of yarn were used with only about 2g of yarn to spare. An additional ball of yarn might be needed if your gauge differs even slightly from the gauge given below.
