I adapted this pattern from the March for Science Headband by Katherine Rollins and the Science Matters Hat by Danielle Morgan of Golden Apple Threads to be something marchers in warmer climates could wear on the April 22 March for Science. It uses a DK weight yarn (I used Simplicity by HiKoo) in blues and greens and corresponding needles.

The pattern is designed for simplicity’s sake: 6 rounds of ribbing followed by 2 rounds of color A, the 3 purl bumps from the Science hat in color B alternating with 3 rounds of color A, then finish with the ribbing. The same backwards as well as forwards!

This headband uses 1 skein of color A (blue in my projects) for 2 headbands, and a small amount of color B (less than a skein for 2 headbands). Use scraps or whatever you have to hand! Your finished headband should fit a 20-22” head comfortably.

Note: wool absorbs (wicks) sweat and returns to its original size. Cotton tends to get full of water and stay stretched out. Just some knowledge when you select your yarn for this project!

Note #2: if your headband is a little loose, just CO 92 stitches instead. If it’s a little tight, CO 100 stitches. The design will accommodate the extra stitches easily!
