March Knit blocks
For this month, March, I’ve been inspired by beautifully cheerful tulips that are showing their heads this month. I could have picked from so many different flowers (daffodils, crocus, snowdrops, hellebore…but following a trip to Amsterdam, it had to be the classic tulip! Play with colour and contrasting backgrounds, these will work beautifully with the rest of the patterns too.
In this pattern, you’ll find a list of suggested matrials and the colourwork charts. Keep knitting throughout the year to create a 2022 blanket, or have a go at ‘Advent KALendar’ challenge (not just for advent) which contains the main 24 patterns used in the original mega blanket. The Adent KAL pattern also includes full instructions for joining the pieces together.**
Let me introduce this month’s patterns. A little bit sweet, a little bit retro and absolutely perfect for March! These two squares have been knitted with very different colour palettes:
Pattern 1. On a soft cream background, this colourway feels springlike and has a vintage feel - like a jumper you’d remember from childhood. Whilst the pinks and purples were inspired by the tulips pictured, you could go wild with brights, or stick with one colour across all petals.
Pattern 2. With a larger scale, this pattern and colourway reminds me of 60’s cookwear. The dark green background sets the cheerful colours off perfectly.
Both squares really are an opportunity to play with colour and contrast, whilst looking gorgeous!
You can use any weight of yarn you wish, gauge isn’t important so long as you have card to match.
