I designed and knitted this shawl just for fun of creating a shawl that could look good both on the right and wrong sides. The pattern alternates knit and purl, which gives a different aspect on the wrong side and there are some who like the ‘reverse’ even more than the ‘front’.

It is a sister shawl to Darmuta, which is also a two-sided rectangular shawl, and both patterns can be purchased as an e-book.

The shawl is easy to knit if you know some basic lace stitches – increasing, decreasing and yarnovers. It is also fun to knit, not too complicated and yet not boring either.

The pattern could be customized by using different yarns, needle sizes, or adding repeats to the pattern.

Yarn – Any ranging from Lace to Sport. I used 200g / 668m / 732 yards of Garnstudio Drops BabyAlpaca Silk on US 4 / 3.5mm needles and with 96sts to obtain a shawl that measures 180 cm x 43 cm (70 inches x 17 inches) blocked.

Needles are not specified as the size depends on the yarn you use and the degree of lacy effect you want to achieve.

Marduta to szal prostokątny, który został tak zaprojektowany, żeby można było nosić go na obie strony i żeby żadna wersja nie stwarzała wrażenia, że jest stroną lewą.

Jest to drugi szal z tej serii, pierwszy to Darmuta, i nawet nazwy mają podobne :)

Wzór jest dość prosty i intuicyjny. Najtrudniejszy i wymagający skupienia jest początek – pierwszy i drugi rząd. Potem wszystko zaczyna układać się jasno i logicznie, i wprost trudno jest się pomylić.

Szerokość i długość szala mogą być dowolnie dopasowane do potrzeb dziewiarki, zarówno poprzez zwiększenie liczby oczek i powtórzeń, jak i poprzez wybór dowolnej grubości włóczki i drutów.
