El Chal Mare Nostrum es el resultado del Calendario de Adviento 2023 (en la sección VÍDEOS DE TÉCNICAS encontrarás todos los vídeos del paso a paso) que llevé a cabo con Save the sheep, cuya tercera edición se basaba en la Oveja Roja de Mallorca.

Es un chal triangular simétrico modular inspirado en dicha oveja. La primera sección se construye a partir de abanicos independientes que refleja la esquila tradicional de Mallorca. A continuación, se levantan puntos a lo largo de todos los abanicos y se hace una sección con calado que representa la red de 60 familias que trabajan para proteger a esta oveja. Seguidamente, se construyen dos alas que dan anchura al chal y que recuerdan a las mareas que van y vienen como las vueltas cortas con las que están construidas. Después, se hace una sección final en perpendicular con un motivo de trenzas con puntos retorcidos cuyo significado es el mar Mediterráneo que baña la isla. Por último, se levantan puntos a lo largo de todo el borde del chal y se hace un cierre con I-Cord, también representando ese mar que rodea toda Mallorca y con ella a las ovejas rojas.

• Agujas circulares de 4 mm (o las necesarias para obtener la muestra de tensión) y cable de, al menos, 80 cm.
• Aguja auxiliar de trenzas (opcional).
• Marcadores.
• Aguja lanera.

The Mare Nostrum Shawl is the result of the 2023 Advent Calendar (you can see the step by step videos in the section TECHNIQUE VIDEOS) which I did with Save the Sheep, the third edition of which was based on the Red Majorcan Sheep.

It is a modular symmetrical triangular shawl inspired by said sheep. The first section is constructed with independent fans that reflect the traditional shearing of Majorca. Then, stitches are picked up along all of the fans and a lace section is worked to represent the network of 60 families that work to protect these sheep. Next, two wings are created to give width to the shawl, and which remind us of the tides that come and go with the short rows with which the wings are made. Afterwards, a final perpendicular section is worked with a cable motif with twisted stitches which represent the Mediterranean Sea that bathes the island. Finally, stitches are picked up along the entire edge of the shawl and finished with an I-cord bind-off, which also represents the sea that surrounds all of Majorca and with it, the red sheep.

Lo scialle Mare Nostrum è il risultato del Calendario dell’Avvento del 2023 (puoi guardare i video dello step by step nella sezione VIDEO DELLE TECNICHE) che ho realizzato con Save the Sheep, la cui terza edizione è stata dedicata alla pecora rossa Maiorchina, cui mi sono ispirato per creare questo scialle triangolare, simmetrico e modulare.

La prima sezione è costituita di ventagli indipendenti che ricordano lo strumento tradizionalmente usato a Maiorca per tosare le pecore. Poi si raccolgono le maglie lungo tutti i ventagli e si lavora una sezione traforata che rappresenta la rete di 60 famiglie impegnate nella salvaguardia di queste pecore. Si creano poi due ali che danno ampiezza allo scialle: i ferri accorciati utilizzati per realizzarle richiamano alla mente le maree che salgono e scendono. Dopo si lavora una sezione finale perpendicolare caratterizzata da un motivo a trecce a maglie ritorte che rappresentano il mar Mediterraneo che bagna l’isola. Infine si raccolgono le maglie lungo l’intero bordo dello scialle e si fa una chiusura i-cord che rappresenta il mare che circonda tutta Maiorca e le sue pecore rosse.
