More than just an edge or border, a margin is space. I do a lot of thinking when I’m knitting; the soothing rhythm of a bit of Stockinette stitch provides me with the opportunity to mull over new ideas, or work through problems. I love that!

MATERIALS
Yarn: MAIN COLOR – Windy Valley’s Majestic Blend (80% merino, 15% qiviut, 5% silk), 5030 Fog Bank, 2 skeins
CONTRAST COLOR – Windy Valley’s Australian Merino, 7015 Thai Basil, 1 skein
Needles: US 6 / 4.00mm (or size to obtain gauge,) 40” / 102cm long, to accommodate number of sts.
Yarn needle

Gauge: 22 sts & 32 rows = 4” in pattern stitch.
Note: gauge measurements are for finished, BLOCKED, gauge. Always treat your swatch like you plan to treat your finished piece. A huge variance in gauge may affect appearance and yardage.

SERIOUSLY, note: This shawl should use up almost all of your yarn. You can swatch anyway, like this: instead of breaking the yarn and pulling a tail through, pull the whole ball through the last stitch but don’t pull tight. Soak and block as usual. Measure your gauge. Double-check it. Then pull the ball back through the stitch and unravel the swatch to cast on. Your yarn will be just fine.
