Marguerite
In Newfoundland and Labrador, storytelling is a way of life – from the songs we sing to the jokes we tell, even the conversations we have around the dinner table at the end of the day. And as knitters, those stories get woven into every piece we create and wear (or pass on to someone else).
“Marguerite” is a DK weight shawl inspired by the historical figure of
the same name, who, in 1542, was abandoned on the Île des Démons (now known as Quirpon, an island off the coast of the Northern Peninsula) while en route to Quebec. The shawl features a mixture of garter and lace designs, symbolic of the strength and femininity Marguerite represents. The pattern includes both charted and written instructions, with an easy-to-remember lace repeat throughout.
This shawl was originally designed for Cast On! Cast Off!’s 2024 retreat. To purchase a print copy and/or kit, please visit https://shop.castoncastoff.com/kits/
