The Maribou stork is about the ugliest bird I can imagine, with a warty pink face. However, even at about 3 feet tall, they manage to delicately perch on the tops of narrow street lights and fly in majestic arcs through the sky. Though I hate driving through downtown Nairobi, I love one stretch of the main road because the Maribou storks have claimed it, building huge nests in trees overlining the road. I wanted to capture my fondness for these birds and so designed a cozy Maribou-colored wrap shawl meant to mimic their impressive wingspans. Lazy cables end in points reminiscent of feathered wingtips.

Though this pattern is designed for DK, it has successfully been knit with worsted and even lace weight held double! This is a truly flexible pattern that is both cozy and elegant that works is a wide range of yarns.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate: Skills include provisional cast on, simple increases, cables, short rows, and weaving in ends.
