Marled Cowl
These are my first two paid patterns, why not give them for free like the others? This is something I’ve been sitting with for a long time, I love free designs, they bring me joy and, hopefully, others too. This was less about making money then it was about the journey that it represents, the recognition that you not living the life you are meant to live and taking the steps you need to making changes. For me, it’s about facing fear, embracing change and taking small steps forward. It’s about embarking on actions that require courage in order to build courage, it’s about believing in yourself and what you do. This is what this step, and my design journey means to me, it’s about not allowing difficulties to keep you down, it’s about moving forward, taking risks, and bring proud of the person that you are becoming. So thank you for taking this journey with me, for your interest in my design, and all the support and kindness that I’ve received along the way.
Materials:
• One 5.5mm US size 9, 4mm US size 6 circular needles, 60 cm in length, or size needed to meet the required gauge.
• Stitch markers, optional, one to mark beginning of round.
• Tapestry needle for sewing in threads.
• Blocking materials.
Two Colour Version (Mustard coloured base):
• DK weight yarn, approximately 180m (197 yds). I used 2 x 50g skeins of Nurturing Fibres Supertwist DK, a plied DK 100% merino yarn, in colourway Dijon.
• Fingering/Sock weight yarn, approximately 180m (197 yds) in colours of your choice, I used two 25g fingering weight mini skeins, or approx. 90m (100 yds) of fingering weight yarn in two colours.
Sample shown using Miss la Motte Merino Singles mini skeins, a single ply 100% Merino yarn.
Mini Skein Version (Pink base):
• Fingering/Sock weight yarn - base colour, approximately 195m (214 yds). I used just over ½ a skein of Miss la Motte Merino Singles, in colourway Lipstick Cabal, which is a single ply 100% Merino yarn.
• Fingering/Sock weight yarn – mini skeins, approximately 195m of fingering/sock weight yarn in colours of your choice. I used 3 x 20g fingering/sock weight mini skeins, or approximately 60 - 65m (67 – 70 yds) of each colour. Sample shown using skeins from an EsTeresa Yarn Creations advent set, in their Cara Base, which is 4 ply 100% Merino yarn.
Size:
One size, 56cm in diameter and 20cm high, for both versions
Gauge:
19 stitches and 24 rounds, is 10cm (4in) in cable knitting, knitted in the round, and blocked with DK and Fingering weight yarn held together.
25 stitches and 32 rounds, is 10cm (4in) in cable knitting, knitted in the round, and blocked with Fingering weight yarn held double.
Knitting to gauge is not that important for this project, but it will affect yardage requirements.
